There are many beautiful places in the world, however, the people of Dubrovnik claim their city to take the top spot on this list.  The city of Dubrovnik is situated in the very south of the Republic of Croatia. It is a work of human inspiration, true in harmony and form. This fortress town was founded in the first half of the 7th century, now holds a spot on the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites. Apart from a great history, Dubrovnik is well known for the beautiful nature that surrounds it. Lopud, Kolocep and Sipan belong to the Elaphiti Islands archipelago – 13 green islands covered by pine forests, free of traffic, with lots of sunshine and sandy beaches, and under an hour's sailing time from Dubrovnik. Together with Mljet Island National Park, they are not just places of incredible natural beauty, but also open air museums of history, art, architecture and folklore. In the evenings savour a full flavoured gourmet cuisine, typical for these islands and the area.
